35 peasant families receive 800 hectares of land

In a significant step towards agrarian equity, the National Land Agency (ANT) delivered 800 hectares of land to 35 peasant families in Baraya, Huila.

The El Patillal property, located in the El Vaticano village, will now be cultivated by the beneficiary families, who make up the Association of Peasant Workers of Huila (ATCH) – Fensuagro.

This delivery marks a milestone within the framework of the Agrarian Reform promoted by the Government of Change, which has allocated a total of 7,768 hectares in 14 municipalities in 10 departments of the country. Simultaneous events celebrated the delivery in Caucasia and Yondó (Antioquia), Chimichagua (Cesar), Pueblo Nuevo (Córdoba), Baraya (Huila) and Fonseca (La Guajira), highlighting the government’s commitment to access to land for historically marginalized communities .

Lester Garrido, coordinator of the ANT in Huila, said: “In the Land for those who work marathon we celebrate that today we are delivering 800 hectares of land in Baraya for peasant families of this beautiful municipality. This is the first delivery that is made in Huila and we hope it will be a significant contribution to the construction of total peace in our department.”

Many of the beneficiary families in Baraya previously worked on rented land. With this new farm, they will have the opportunity to develop sustainable productive projects, grow citrus and other foods, as well as raise animals. This advance not only strengthens local and national food security, but also responds to a historical debt to the peasantry, contributing to the peace process from the peasant bases in a region as affected by the armed conflict as Huila.
