Regional Governor Andrea Macías Palma assured that both the Regional Government of Aysén and its Council will support the construction of an oncology center for the Region, within the framework of the design of the project portfolio of the Extreme Zones Development Plan (PDZE) 2024-2034.

Coyhaique.- This, after the presentation of the president of the Oncoaysén Group Patricia Aburto, who spoke at the last plenary session of the Council, where she referred to the recent campaign to collect signatures initiated by the organization and the need to have an establishment of these characteristics.

“We finished our campaign, we already concluded with 5 thousand signatures. We achieved our campaign objective because cancer patients cannot participate in citizen dialogues, because they are patients who are immunosuppressed and cannot go out to march or petition in response to the need they experience,” he highlighted.

Along these lines, he said that they will convene the municipality together for an intersectoral health meeting to find the best strategies to achieve the project.

For her part, Governor Andrea Macías assured “the commitment to take on with great force the possibility of having an oncology center in the Aysén Region. We know that we are all exposed. We know what the process of uprooting implies, of experiencing grief, living so far from family, moments that are so painful. We certainly reaffirm and we will be there.”

Along these lines, the first regional authority also promised to put on the Regional Council’s table the call for an expanded commission “to know the projections on the matter and find a way to collaborate.”

According to Macías, within the framework of the PDZE it has been determined that all health infrastructure be incorporated into the plan, in order to overcome any complications in the evaluation methodology, reiterating the commitment of the Regional Government and its Council, which must be complemented with the work that the Ministry of Health can contribute to the initiative.

On the other hand, the Governor recalled that there is currently a project being developed by the Infrastructure and Transport Division (DIT) for the conservation of the shelter for cancer patients. For this purpose, professionals from the Regional Government have already been to the current building to carry out the technical survey and the project should soon arrive to be studied by the relevant CORE committees.
