Art and Culture at Benito Salas Airport

The country’s culture and literary history inaugurating a reading room at the Benito Salas Airport in Neiva.

In an effort to reinforce its commitment to Colombian culture, Ashley Furniture Homestore Colombia, the world’s leading chain of home furnishings stores, has marked a milestone by opening the first reading room at the Benito Salas Airport in Neiva. This space, designed exclusively for tourists, will be available from June 17 to July 4, coinciding with the commemoration of the 100 years of Civil Aeronautics and the centenary of “La Vorágine”, the emblematic novel by José Eustasio Rivera.

The reading room, thoughtfully furnished by Ashley Furniture, offers visitors a comfortable and welcoming environment to enjoy literature while waiting for their flights. This cultural initiative not only provides a space for recreation and learning, but also highlights the country’s literary wealth.

As part of this celebration, Ashley Furniture Homestore Colombia launched a call for a local artist to capture a literary work on one of its best-selling pieces of furniture. The Huila artist Diego Galvis, recognized for his expertise in muralism, sculptures and oil painting, was selected to intervene on a sofa that has been donated to the airport. This piece of furniture not only highlights the historical and cultural importance of the event, but also becomes a visual focal point that impacts visitors.
