The second tropical depression of the current hurricane season formed today, Friday, in the waters of the Atlantic Ocean. At five in the afternoon, its central region was located at 9.1 degrees north latitude and 41.9 degrees west longitude, about 1,970 kilometers east-southeast of the island of Barbados, in the southern group of the Lesser Antilles.

According to Master of Science Elier Pila, a senior specialist at the Institute of Meteorology’s Forecast Center, at that time the system had maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour and a minimum central pressure of 1,007 hectoPascals. It is moving towards the west at 33 kilometers per hour.

According to model projections, Tropical Depression Two should rapidly gain organization and intensity, becoming Tropical Storm Beryl tomorrow, Saturday, and reaching hurricane status on Sunday, as it approaches the southern portion of the Lesser Antilles. .
