The Governor-elect of Santa Cruz Luis Fernando Camacho, was again notified with a formal accusation by the Public Prosecutor’s Office, for the alleged crimes of terrorism, sedition and others, within the case known as ‘Golpe I’, for the 36 days of strike that took place in 2022.
Martín Camacho, lawyer for the governor-elect, deprived of liberty in Chonchocoro, confirmed that on Thursday, June 27, of this year, Luis Fernando was notified, with the accusation of referred to as the ‘Coup I’ case.
“In the wrongly named ‘Coup I’ case, Governor Luis Fernando Camacho wasnotified yesterday (Thursday), with the accusation presented by the Ministry Public, also due to the private accusations of Lidia Paty (former deputy and complainant of the case), the Ministry of Government and the State Attorney General’s Office,” Camacho explained in an interview with the press.
He explained that they have a period of ten business days to present exculpatory evidence, so that once the parties have been notified, an order to open and start the trial is issued.
“It’s strange (the notification) when There was an observation from the Court to the accusation of the Public Ministry, and that two days after a ‘media show’ following a ‘self-coup’ promoted by the Ministry of Government and the Army these notifications appear in a violent manner, trying to support a hypothesis, in any case of a ‘Coup d’état’ that would have occurred in 2020,” the lawyer questioned.
He believes that the purpose of the notification to the elected governor of Santa Cruz has the same purpose as what he considers to be a ‘self-coup’ carried out on Wednesday, June 26 of this year, in Plaza Murillo (La Paz), to ‘raise popularity decline of President Arce’.
“This is all part of a narrative of a speech by a Government in crisis and in decline and a President who is rejected by the 80 % of the Bolivian population,” he said.
Despite this, he assured that they will comply with the court order and continue with the procedures, but they do not rule out that it is a political move. “Now What corresponds is to treat, on the part of the defense of Governor Luis Fernando Camacho as of the accused, present the evidence in your defence with the understanding that important actions such as the taking of statements by Evo Morales (former president), Álvaro García Linera (former vice president), or former minister Carlos Romero were never carried out,” he stated.
