According to the Cauca Regional Indigenous Council (Cric), the victim had been kidnapped since June 22.

On Friday, June 28, it was learned that the son of the Vice Minister for Ethnic Peoples, Nelson Lemus, was murdered in Cauca on Thursday, June 27. Eyber Danilo Poto Pazú was a member of the indigenous reservation of San Francisco, located in the municipality of Toribío.

The ICT Minister, Mauricio Lizcano, rejected this fact in his X account: “Round rejection of the murder of Eyber Danilo Poto Pazú, son of the Vice Minister of Ethnic Peoples, Nelson Lemus Cruz. I urge the authorities to take measures, forceful and agile actions that lead to the capture of those who perpetrated this reprehensible act in Cauca. All my solidarity and a sense of condolence to the family and friends of the deceased. We are with you”.

“These criminals want to plunge us into a miserable war to continue committing crimes against the nation’s withering away. These acts are far from a true vocation for peace. What do they gain by killing innocent people? What is the supposed fight for the people if they kill the same defenseless people with total inhumanity?” said the director of the National Planning Department, Alexander López Maya, through his X account.

Who is Nelson Lemus, Deputy Minister of Ethnic Peoples?

Nelson Lemus is a Nasa indigenous leader who has promoted several projects in northern Cauca. In February of this year he took over as Vice Minister for Ethnic Peoples of the Ministry of Equality.
He has also served as an advisor to former senator Feliciano Valencia and was also a senior advisor to the Cric.
