La Rioja prepares for the celebration of the 90th anniversary of the creation of the diocese

The central celebration will be this Sunday, in front of the cathedral, and promises to be “a great Tinkunaco of reflection, gratitude and renewal.” ”90 years of faith, hope and mission”, the motto.

The diocese of The Rioja detailed the dates, places and times of the celebration of the winter feast of San Nicolás de Bari, within the framework of the ninetieth anniversary of that ecclesiastical jurisdiction, with the motto “90 years of faith, hope and mission.”

The Riojan community is preparing for this special celebration, which will mark the 90th anniversary of the creation of the diocese of La Rioja, with the motto “Faith, Hope and Mission.”

The main festival – which coincides with the winter festivals in honour of Saint Nicholas of Bari, patron saint of the province of La Rioja – will be on Sunday 7 July, in front of the cathedral dedicated to Saint Nicholas and, as anticipated, promises to be “a great Tinkunaco of reflection, gratitude and renewal.”

“It is a gesture of pilgrimage and mission,” said the priest Pablo Delegateone of the leaders of the organization, together with lay people and young people from different movements.

Pilgrimage to participate in the festival

Many people from various cities and towns in the province will travel to the provincial capital to participate in the diocesan jubilee celebration.

Some of these communities will gather in Patquía and, from there, in a caravan, they will arrive at the meeting place in the Riojan cathedral.

From 10:30, entertainers and musicians will receive delegations from the different deaneries and the communities of the provincial capital.

Each deanery will have the image of some Marian dedication or of some saint representative of its area.

Only mass in the province in the capital of Rioja

The Bishop of La Rioja, Monsignor Dante Braidawill preside over a special mass at 12 noon in the cathedral, followed by a community lunch in Plaza 25 de Mayo.

That will be the only mass that will be celebrated that day in the entire province. The Eucharistic celebration is, in this case, called “seasonal” and is the most solemn celebration presided over by a bishop.

“We are all invited to participate in the Word and in the Eucharist,” said Father Delgado.

Continuity of the diocesan festival

The program will continue at 2 p.m. with artistic presentations from each of the five deaneries, during which their stories and missions will be highlighted.

At 4 pm, there will be a musical presentation also referring to the 90th anniversary of the diocese of La Rioja.

The festival will end at 5pm with a procession with the image of Saint Nicholas. As happens every year during the winter festivals, the image of the patron saint will be accompanied by the image of the Child Jesus Mayor and the Virgin of the Valley. In addition, it will have as a postcard -the organizers anticipate- other images of saints and advocations of the Virgin Mary that represent the faith and mission of La Rioja.
