Colombia defeated Costa Rica (3-0) this Friday for the second date of Group D of the Copa América 2024. Luis Díaz, Dávinson Sánchez and Jhon Córdoba scored for the tricolor, which responded to the confidence of Professor Néstor Lorenzo and was the party figure.

The 31-year-old striker from Chocó was instrumental in the victory. Díaz’s penalty goal came from a foul inside the area that he received. He also scored the third goal of the afternoon after receiving a pass from James Rodríguez and going at speed to then define with a cross shot.

“Everything that was planned during the week was done and the truth is that I am very happy to contribute to my teammates, not just for the goal,” commented the forward in the post-match interview. This afternoon was his second score with the tricolor.

Córdoba has responded to the confidence of the Colombian national team coach. Despite not having much experience with the tricolor (he has only played five international matches) he has become an important piece after what he has shown in recent months.

“He [Lorenzo] I knew that I was a very powerful player and that I would take advantage of the long spaces, and well, I was able to do it.” That quality of his was evident in the third goal. “My teammates know me. James has thrown me the ball practically without looking and I was there.”

During his celebration, he hugged Rafael Santos Borré, his direct competitor in the forward position. “We talked a lot before the match, he gave me a lot of support and I am really happy. Today it was my turn and surely in another match it will be his turn and we will be very happy.”

Colombia easily defeated Costa Rica and in doing so confirmed its place in the quarterfinals of the 2024 Copa América. The tricolor will close its participation in the group stage next Tuesday at 8:00 pm. Its rival will be Brazil and the match is in Santa Clara, California.

“It is a work that has been done together. We are a family, it doesn’t matter who scores. The important thing is to win and today we leave with the three points, which is the important thing,” was the balance of the Chocoan attacker.
