Havana, Jun 28 (Prensa Latina) Cuba has not forgotten the coup d’état carried out against former Honduran President Manuel Zelaya 15 years ago, the island’s Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez said today.

During the early hours of June 28, 2009, soldiers broke into the home of Honduran President José Manuel Zelaya and expelled him to Costa Rica, thereby carrying out a coup d’état against him orchestrated by Washington and the nation’s oligarchy.

The international community unanimously condemned the breakdown of the constitutional order in Honduras and no government in the world recognized the coup junta.

After the 2009 coup, Zelaya and popular sectors began a resistance fight that culminated in the victory of Xiomara Castro, who won the November 2021 general elections.
