The solution to the tightness of the so-called dead chamber in the boiler area marks today the critical route of the short maintenance that is being carried out at the Antonio Guiteras Thermoelectric Power Plant (CTE), located in this city, after the exit from the national electric energy system (SEN) this Thursday.
Román Pérez Castañeda, technical director of the largest and most efficient unitary block in Cuba, explained to the Cuban News Agency that the greatest efforts are currently concentrated on successfully completing this task, which was the essential cause of the interruption.
At the same time, more than 200 corrective actions are carried out per opportunity, including solving valve problems and cleaning the condenser, among others, which should not exceed the 72 or 96 hours estimated for the shutdown, commented the engineer. .
Pérez Castañeda confirmed that they have the technical equipment and human resources available to carry out the work, the latter consisting of more than 350 personnel from the Power Plant Maintenance Company (EMCE) and the Plant’s own staff.
When asked about the incorporation of the block, the spearhead in thermal generation on the Island for various reasons, the manager predicted the return to the SEN between next Sunday at night or Monday morning, as anticipated in recent communications from the National Electrical Union.
Prior to the start-up, the Guiteras CTE generated 260 megawatts for the country and it is expected that, after its start-up and load lifting at the scheduled time, it will be able to reach a similar power with a good specific fuel consumption record.
Founded more than three decades ago by Fidel Castro, the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Guiteras stands out among its peers for being located in the western part of the island, where the largest electrical loads are concentrated, and for consuming national crude oil by pipeline, without the need for transportation costs, among other advantages.
