Get to know the “Las Amazonas” Work Cooperative

Nacho de Isla is a member of the “Las Amazonas” Work Cooperative of Bajo Flores and told on AgenHoy radio how they operate on a daily basis and how they are going through the country’s economic moment.

They operate in the Happy Children Community Center, which was created 35 years ago by the initiative of the women of this Buenos Aires neighborhood and the support of the slum priests. The formation of the cooperative arose from the will of a group of these women and teachers who assisted in workshops and activities at the cultural center.

The social objective has to do with assisting people who are in a state of social vulnerability, homeless or with substance use problems.

“I have been in this for 15 years, but about 8 years ago they made the decision to work with a sector of the neighborhood’s population that was taking on different characteristics, namely those who consume substances and are ending up on the street,” Nacho said.

And he added: “We did an investigation and we realized that due to our way of working, we had to be cooperative, which we discovered little by little. “It represents our work spirit.”
