The actions were carried out by the Mipyme (micro, small and medium-sized enterprises) Orta Construcciones, which worked on roofs and walls, with the aim of eliminating leaks, without damaging the original environment of the house.

The renovation concluded precisely in the context of important anniversaries: the 510th anniversary of the founding of the town of Espíritu Santo and the 178th anniversary of the birth of Sánchez, hero of the three wars of independence against Spanish colonial rule.

In addition to the above, the province of Sancti Spíritus was granted the venue for the central event on July 26, National Rebellion Day, an event that commemorates the 71st anniversary of the attacks on the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes barracks.

The political-cultural gala, to mark the birthday of the man who was also a teacher and writer, will take place on the 2nd at the Birthplace Museum that bears his name, located in a building built between 1825 and 1830.

The museum, which opened its doors on November 2, 1990, houses more than 260 pieces and during the construction actions it directed its educational steps to communities, schools and work centers to make visible the heritage that the cultural institution safeguards.

According to María Antonieta Jiménez, City Historian, at the time of the birth of the Sancti Spiritus champion, what is now Céspedes Street was called San Rafael, and the numbering of the house also changed from 84 to 112.

The reforms that it underwent over more than 100 years did not affect it substantially, says the historian in the book National and Local Monuments of Sancti Spíritus.

For his work in emigration, in the expedition of the José Martí steamship and for his proven courage in the Invasion with Máximo Gómez and Antonio Maceo, in the Headquarters of the Fourth Corps and as Inspector General of the Army, the house was declared a Local Monument.

Serafín had a vast epistolary exchange with the National Hero of Cuba José Martí (1853-1895), which scholars consider was only surpassed by the one between him and his Mexican friend Manuel Mercado.

On November 18, 1896, he carried out his last war action in the well-known battle of Paso de Las Damas, having on his service record important actions destined for the independence of Cuba.

Researchers point out that in his last words the hero ordered: Continue the march, a permanent slogan in this territory to the center of Cuba as a challenge to overcome obstacles and impossibilities. March that indicates the logo for July 26.
