Havana Cuba.- At a meeting at the University of Havana on Friday, the President of the United Nations General Assembly, Dennis Francis, stressed the broad international support for ending the US blockade and opposed the inclusion of Cuba on the list of countries sponsoring terrorism.

During his speech at the Aula Magna, the senior official praised the island’s active role in multilateral forums and its defense of the demands of the global south, as well as its adherence to the principles of the UN Charter.

Francis said that Cuba, despite being a small developing state, participates in transcendental discussions such as the need to achieve a new international financial order, world peace, nuclear disarmament, among other issues.

In his speech, the diplomat said that the values ​​of the UN are in the DNA of Cubans.

UN General Assembly President Dennis Francis thanked the Cuban people for their solidarity in the face of health crises and natural disasters such as COVID-19, Ebola, earthquakes, hurricanes and other phenomena that have hit countries in the region and around the world.

The diplomat also praised Cuba’s efforts in terms of gender equality and recognized that women’s access to the same opportunities in the country is an example, even for the UN, where there has not been a secretary general.

The senior UN official highlighted the country’s leadership in forums such as the Non-Aligned Movement and recognized the contributions of the Cuban presidency of the Group of 77 plus China.

At this Friday’s event, Francis received recognition from the University of Havana for his contributions to peace between peoples.
