Madrid/The official visit to Cuba of the current president of the UN General Assembly, Dennis Francis, shows that the Island has an indisputable ally in the organization. “Cuba is a country of great importance, not only for the Caribbean, but for the world,” said Francis in one of his public interventions, where he also described Cubans as “great people.”

This Friday’s day was the penultimate day of Francis’ three-day visit to the Island.

During a speech on Friday afternoon at the University of Havana, the Trinidadian highlighted that “the United Nations is in Cuba’s DNA” and that the Island has been a defender of “peace and respect for the sovereignty of all nations.” nations.”

He also appreciated that Havana responded to calls from the United Nations to send health personnel to countries like Haiti or in regions like West Africa during the Ebola crisis. However, there was not a single allusion to the reports of several UN rapporteurs who described the conditions of Cuban doctors in international missions as “forced labor.”
