This contribution marks a historic milestone, as it is one of the first times that Mongolia has donated funds to WFP, thus reaffirming its international solidarity and commitment to Zero Hunger.

“This humanitarian aid is an expression of the warm feelings of the Mongolian people dedicated to the Cuban people who are going through complex social and economic times,” said the Mongolian ambassador to Cuba, Zoljargal Seseer.

The contribution will allow WFP to meet the food needs of around 50,000 people, including 2,900 pregnant women and more than 44,600 vulnerable people. To this end, WFP purchased 400 mt of rice, 107 mt of cooking oil and 250 mt of grains that will be distributed.

Each person will receive two kg of rice, one kg of green peas and one litre of oil, which will be delivered every two months for a period of six months. The food will be distributed through local stores and will be added to the family basket provided by the authorities.

«This donation is part of the work that WFP is doing to contribute to the socioeconomic recovery of the country. “WFP remains committed to continuing to support national authorities to promote the consumption of nutritious foods in vulnerable groups,” said WFP Representative in Cuba, Etienne Labande.

The United Nations World Food Programme is the world’s largest humanitarian organization, saving lives in emergencies and using food aid to build a path to peace, stability and prosperity for people recovering from conflict, disasters and the impacts of climate change.Taken from WFP)
