The National Unit for Disaster Risk Management (UNGRD) delivers more than 9,400 units of Emergency Humanitarian Assistance (AHE) in the municipality of San Jacinto del Cauca, Bolívar, in response to the emergency generated by the rupture of the Caregato dam. Assistance units include both food and non-food items.

According to reports, more than a thousand families have been affected in San Jacinto del Cauca, with 6 villages affected, 256 houses destroyed and 147 damaged. In addition, damage has been reported to more than 6,000 hectares of crops, as well as the loss of more than 3,000 heads of cattle and 1,200 heads of buffalo. The rupture of the dam has also impacted 157 fishermen and 935 farmers in the area.

The general director of the UNGRD, Carlos Carrillo Arenas, highlighted that the delivery of humanitarian assistance is carried out specifically in the municipality of San Jacinto del Cauca, where the Caregato dam is located, known for the floods it has caused in the past.

The delivery of the assistance was made possible thanks to the completion of the information of the victims by the mayor of San Jacinto del Cauca on the platform of the Single Registry of Victims (RUD).

Carrillo Arenas highlighted the importance of the National Risk Management System, in which each actor must fulfill their responsibility. He thanked the mayors who have completed the characterization of the information on the RUD platform and invited those who have not yet done so to promptly complete this process, so that the assistance kits can reach the affected families in The Mojana.

The UNGRD will continue with the purchase and delivery of humanitarian assistance in other municipalities in the region, such as Ayapel (Córdoba), Majagual, Guaranda, Sucre, San Benito and San Marcos (Sucre), once the total upload of the information is completed. the victims in the system.
