Yesterday, International LGBTIQ+ Pride Day was celebrated in Colombia and around the world, which is why the Presidency announced that it will open the doors of the Casa de Nariño to representatives of this population.

“For the first time in the history of our country, the LGBTIQ+ population, historically excluded from different scenarios, including political ones, will tour the Casa de Nariño as a symbol of progress in guaranteeing their rights and in the construction of public policy,” said the Presidency.

They also announced that the flag of this population will be raised in the Plaza de Armas of the Casa de Nariño, as a “sign of our commitment to this population that has historically been stigmatized, discriminated against and excluded, especially in rural areas and ethnic communities.”

The Ministry of Equality assured that it supports the more than 500 thousand people who self-identify, based on their gender diversity and sexual orientation, as members of the LGBTIQ+ population (lesbians, gays, bisexuals, transgender, intersex, queer, non-binary and other genders).

This is in response to actions being carried out by the entity such as the creation and implementation of the Directorate for the Guarantee of the Rights of the LGBTIQ+ Population, in the Vice Ministry of Diversities of the Ministry of Equality and Equity.

In this process, they announced that there is an investment project approved by the National Planning Department and is aimed at the development and approval of the Diversity in Dignity program that seeks to contribute to the guarantee of the effective enjoyment of the rights of the population. LGBTIQ+.

On the other hand, they held a Memorandum of Understanding with the Brazilian government in order to establish collaborations and exchange information regarding regulations, public policies, information gathering and rights of the LGBTIQ+ population.

This is why, on this Pride Day, they sent an invitation to citizens to generate a transformation in the face of the imaginings and prejudices surrounding diversity that will allow us to advance towards a more just and inclusive society that guarantees a dignified life for all people.
