How Pablo Aimar fared as a coach: the titles he won and his numbers

Saturday, June 29, 2024 will be a very special date in the sporting life of Pablo César Aimar. The 44-year-old from Córdoba will have his first experience as head coach of the Argentine National Team, due to the one-match suspension that Lionel Scaloni received from Conmebol due to a late exit by the team in the second half against Chile in the 2024 Copa América.

Aimar’s career as a coach so far is exclusively linked to everything that concerns the Argentine national teams. Although he has accompanied Scaloni as an assistant since day one of his glorious adventure in the Major League, El Payasito did have experience as a head coach in the Albiceleste youth teams.

Firstly it was in the U-17, where he established himself with the team in the South American Championship of the year 2019 which qualified him for the World Cup of the category that same year, where he reached the round of 16. Then it was his turn to take charge of the Argentina U-15 during 2023, where he only directed some friendlies and training sessions while the AFA was looking for a new coach for that position.

Aimar also had experience in the U-20 as Scaloni’s field assistant in the L’Alcudia tournament in mid-2018, in the first experience in office of the coach who would later become world champion, which occurred a few months after the Argentine soccer failure in the World Cup in Russia.

His role as Scaloni’s right-hand man and Messi’s admiration for Aimar

Since he has been part of the National Team coaching staffAs an older player, Aimar is undoubtedly the most trusted man that Scaloni has on the substitute bench and is the first source of consultation permanent not only in matches but also in training. Added to that, Pablo has been extremely admired by Lionel Messi since he was very young, as the best player in the world has confessed more than once.
