Former military man Carlos Pérez, born in Jáchal, San Juan, was in the crosshairs of Justice after Laudelina, aunt of Loan Danilo Peña, declared that the man from San Juan, together with his partner, María Victoria Caillava, had run over the child with their truck and then disposed of the body. It is worth mentioning that both Pérez and Caillava are in custody.

Carlos Pérez perceives himself as a “gentleman and villain like any self-respecting Navy officer,” as he described on his social networks. On his Facebook profile there are few posts from the accused in the Loan Peña disappearance case. In the vast majority of his photos is his wife, Victoria Caillava.

The accused was born on August 6, 1961 in Jáchal. Later, Carlos Pérez Hernández, graduated as a midshipman in 1982, during the Malvinas War, had an outstanding career in the Argentine Navy, holding relevant positions as Director of Supply and Chief of Audit of the General Inspectorate of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Armed forces. He voluntarily retired in September 2017 after 37 years of service. He finished his military career in Ushuaia.

Carlos Pérez is one of those arrested for the disappearance of little Loan Peña. The former soldier was arrested last Friday along with his wife Cristina Caillava, who works as a municipal official. A few weeks ago, Carlos Pérez’s face was unknown. But his connection with the case with the greatest impact in current Argentine news placed him among the most media names.

Following the incident, the personnel of the National Gendarmerie, San Juan delegation, carried out an exhaustive inspection of a half-hectare lot located in Jáchal, acquired by Carlos Pérez Hernández and his wife, María Victoria Caillava, according to the departmental portal Actualidad Jachallera. This action was carried out within the framework of the investigation into the disappearance of Loan Danilo Peña, a 5-year-old boy who disappeared on June 13 in Corrientes. The neighbors interviewed by the National Gendarmerie reported that Pérez and his wife were on the aforementioned lot between January and February 2023, coinciding with the summer season. According to the testimonies, the national officers only observed the land, but did not carry out any searches.
