Kristen Stewart would only make a Marvel movie under a highly unlikely condition

That superhero cinema is not going through its best moment, and the criticisms expressed by legendary directors such as Martin Scorsese or Ridley Scott are being joined even by those who participate in them, as is the case of Anthony Mackie, the new Captain America. In fact, there are many actors and actresses who refuse to participate in this type of cinema, ensuring that they are insubstantial roles that do not contribute much to them. The last to criticize this type of cinema is Kristen Stewartwho rose to fame for the saga ‘Twilight’.

Ironically, his co-star in that one, Robert Pattinsonhas recently ventured successfully into superhero movies, playing Bruce Wayne in ‘The Batman’. So much so that its sequel is guaranteed, with filming scheduled to begin this year, but for its release we will have to wait until 2026. But it is not something that Stewart is working on…

“It sounds like a f… nightmare, actually,” the actress said in a podcast. “I would never do a Marvel movie. Only if Greta Gerwig asked me to do a Marvel movie, would I do it“, something that obviously does not seem very likely, rather impossible, and it does not seem that the director of ‘Barbie’ is very willing.

The Californian was only 12 years old when she played Sarah, Jodie Foster’s daughter in David Fincher’s film. She later became world famous for her role in the ‘Twilight’ saga, but as a teenager she already demonstrated her talent as an actress.

And Stewart doesn’t even look like he had fun filming ‘Charlie’s Angels’ (2019). “I like big movies because I like people to watch them when I’m in them,” Stewart confesses. “The system should change, what ends up happening is this strange, algorithmic experience where you can’t feel it as something personal.”

The young actress thus follows in the footsteps of her mentor, Jodie Foster, with whom she met in ‘Panic Room’, when Stewart was an innocent 12 years old. “It’s a phase, a phase that has gone on too long,” Foster said not long ago. “I hope people get tired of that soon. The good ones (‘Iron Man’, ‘Black Panther’), I marvel at those movies, and the entertainment they produce, but that’s not why I became an actress. And those movies didn’t change my life. I hope there will be room for something more soon.”

What are the next superhero movies?

Thanks to, or because of, the actors and screenwriters’ strike, there will be a relatively quiet 2024 in terms of superhero movies. In fact, DC Studios will not release any major production unless ‘Superman’by James Gunn, kicks off his new universe, unless we consider the expected ‘Joker: Folie a Deux’. However, Marvel will be present with ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’and at least two productions from Sony’s Spiderverse: the already released, and poorly successful, ‘Madame Web’and ‘Venom: The Last Dance’there could even be three if it is finally released this year ‘Kraven The Hunter’something that does not seem very likely.
