The actor ended up in the hospital and later tried again with the same result

Gerard Butler put his body to the limit when he played Leonidas in 300, but years later he underwent a “remedy” that took him to the hospital. Twice.

In 2017, the actor released the action and science fiction film Geostorm. Directed by Dean Devlin, the film is set in a world where a network of satellites controls the weather. When this begins to fail, those in charge of solving the problem discover that there is a conspiracy to end the life of the president of the United States.

As is usual in Butler’s filmography, the action is present and that means that the actor has to carry out very physical scenes. To alleviate the pain and fatigue after 12 hours of work, the interpreter resorted to the venom of 23 bees.

I had heard about this guy who injects bee venom because apparently it has a lot of anti-inflammatory benefits.. So I say, ‘Come on, come to New Orleans, we’re filming.’ I get a sting and I’m like, ‘Wow, that’s interesting because it stings,'” Butler recalled on ITV in 2017.

As he added:

Then he gives me 10 jabs and I have the worst reaction ever. I went into anaphylactic shock a bit. It’s horrible, I have bugs everywhere, swollen, my heart is going to explode. I check it and find out that he gave me 10 times too much

Butler was taken to the hospital and, four days later, decided to give bee venom another try. “I thought, ‘Maybe I had too much.’ So he’s on the phone, and this time I have to go to the hospital again.”he indicated.

The apitherapy It is a remedy that has been used for centuries in which live bees are placed in inflamed areas of the body so that they sting that area and reduce inflammation. A more current option is to directly extract the venom from the bees and inject it into the area.

Fortunately, Butler overcame the two reactions that landed him in the hospital. Geostorm, co-starring Jim Sturgess, Abbie Cornish, Andy Garcia and Ed Harris; is available on HBO Max.
