The remake of the 90s film was a massive box office success and its prequel will try to replicate its gross.
Disney has released the first trailer for ‘Mufasa: The Lion King’, a prequel to the 2019 photorealistic remake of ‘The Lion King’, and revealed that Blue Ivy Carter has joined the voice cast. ‘Moonlight’ director Barry Jenkins will explore the origin story of Simba’s father, showing his childhood with his brother Taka aka Scar, who becomes his son’s main antagonist in the future.
New story, new songs
Aaron Pierre and Kelvin Harrison Jr. will voice the younger versions of Mufasa and Scar, respectively. James Earl Jones voiced Mufasa in both the original 1994 film and the 2019 remake. Jeremy Irons voiced Scar in 1994, while Chiwetel Ejiofor takes over in 2019. Jenkins has commented on Indiewire that ‘Mufasa’ is a very personal film for him and that has seen the animated original over 200 timessince he took great care of his nephews when they were little.
“The script of the movie reminded me of what young people do with their emotions and how they can become great just as they are. It’s a story about how Mufasa rose to royalty. We assume he was born into his lineage, but in reality “Mufasa was an orphaned cub who had to navigate the world alone. By telling this story, we experience the true journey of how Mufasa found his place in the circle of life. Accepting this film is one of the best decisions of my life.”
