Nicolas Cage to play Jesus’ father in new religious horror film

The Carpenter’s Son is the new film that explores the eternal confrontation between good and evil, and it does so in a quite terrifying way

Abandoning the classic topics of exorcisms, demonic possessions and paranormal events, The Carpenter’s Son It is director Lofty Nathan’s most ambitious project. The script is inspired by the apocryphal gospel of Thomas’ infancy. This text dates back to the 2nd century AD and narrates the first years of Jesus’ life. Thanks to this, the production explores his childhood from a terrifying perspective.

In accordance with what is reflected in the official synopsis, The Carpenter’s Son shows the story of a family hidden in Roman Egypt. Although he does not use the exact names of the Holy Family, he implies that they are Joseph, Mary and Jesus.

This way, The plot revolves around the doubts that the son faces, called “the Boy”, which are unfounded by another mysterious boy. As he rebels against his guardian, the Carpenter, he develops powers inherent and beyond his understanding, placing his family in the crosshairs of a series of horrors of both natural and divine kinds.

Nicolas Cage remains in the horror genre

Despite the effects that horror films have on the brain, productions of this genre remain among the great favorites of moviegoers, perhaps this is the reason why we will see Nicolas Cage star in The Carpenter’s Son after stellar participations in Arcadian and Dream Scenariothe two productions that allowed him to overcome the problems derived from his critical errors in 2023.

According to the official announcement, the American actor will play the role of the Carpenter, and will share the spotlight with FKA Twigs and Noah Jupe, in the roles of the Mother and Child, implying that it is the Holy Family: Joseph, Mary and Jesus in the Bible. Likewise, Souheila Yacoub will participate, although the character she will occupy in the story is unknown.

Although we can only wait to see if The Carpenter’s Son manages to repeat or surpass the feat of recent productions, it has two important points in its favor, on the one hand, the presence of Nicolas Cage as the protagonist, who has polished his talent in the genre through Arcadianand, on the other, the extravagant premise that already captures the attention of moviegoers and puts it among the most original scripts.

In short, although not many details are known about it, what has been revealed so far indicates that The Carpenter’s Son is an invitation to explore the life of a young Jesus Christ from another perspective. The production inspired by the Gospel of Thomas’s childhood, promises to immerse itself in a dark and unconventional narrative, which departs from the stereotypes of the genre.
