The most expensive movie in Netflix history is already on its way and will come from the directors of ‘Avengers: Endgame’

Spectacular science fiction that will feature actors from ‘Stranger Things’ or ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’

The Russo brothers have not yet finished burning the industrial credits they earned by directing ‘Infinity War’ and ‘Endgame’, the two Avengers movies that marked the peak of the Marvel Universe. Most of the projects they have undertaken since, such as the film ‘Cherry’, ‘The Invisible Agent’ for Netflix or ‘Citadel’ for Prime Video, have not had even remotely the same depth.

Even so, they are still very capable of launching projects that put entire platforms at their feet. The last one, a science fiction film that will cost 320 million dollars, becoming the most expensive production in the history of the platform. This is an honor that until now was held twice by ‘Red Alert’ and, significantly, ‘The Invisible Agent’, also by the Russos.

The film will be titled ‘The Electric State’, based on a book of digital illustrations by Swedish artist Simon Stålenhag, who specializes in places halfway between the idyllic, the futuristic and the disturbing. His disturbing imagination already gave rise, with one of his previous books, to the notable HBO series ‘Stories from the Loop’. Here we move away from her usual Swedish places and go to the United States, with the story of a teenager who travels around the country accompanied by a robot with which she tries to locate her brother.

The film will be released in 2025 despite having finished filming in February 2023, since a series of reshoots. The cast confirmed to date is full of well-known names: Millie Bobby Brown (‘Stranger Things’) or Chris Pratt (‘Guardians of the Galaxy’), accompanied by Ke Huy Quan, Stanley Tucci, Brian Cox, Giancarlo Esposito, Anthony Mackie or Billy Bob Thornton.
