The actor gave life to Martinex, a secondary character with more chicha than he seems

Michael Rosenbaum has revealed that his character in the ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ films Marvel was initially going to have much more screen time. During a panel at Nashville Comicon on Saturday, the star explained all about his role as Martinex, a small supporting character in the sci-fi trilogy of James Gunn that had more than what seemed filmed.

Rosenbaum explained that the initial plan had much more weight:

“The role was supposed to be much bigger. They cut out a lot of things. You were supposed to see his powers… It was written in the script that you could see Martinex’s powers, which were really cool. But they had so much to talk about in the script that they ended up cutting it at the end. And there were other things.”

However, the actor does not feel any animosity towards the director andsolo is grateful for the experience with the Guardians franchise and his old friend James Gunn.

“It was fun. For me, it’s like, I’m working with my friends, I’m getting paid, I’m in a big Marvel movie, life could suck a lot worse, you know what I mean? I’m so grateful.”

Michael Rosenbaum and James Gunn have been close since working together on the 2008 series ‘PG Porn’. Rosenbaum’s character debuted in 2017’s ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’ alongside Sylvester Stallone’s Stakar Ogord. They also briefly reappeared in 2023’s Vol. 3.

“I want to see your version of Peter Quill”

But before the actor landed on the role of Martinex, he made audition to play Peter Quill / Star-Lord in the first movie, before they decided to give it to Chris Pratt. This is how he tells it:

“I was very nervous. [Risas.] You’re sitting there with one of your best friends who’s directing a big movie, who knows your ability, and says, ‘I want to see your version of Peter Quill.’ Now the pressure is there. I remember that I came up with my own dance for the Star Lord scene. He had a great partner, he felt very organic from the beginning. I didn’t really care about getting the role, I didn’t know anything about the Guardians comics. “I just wanted to do a good job for James.”
