After several delays, the fifth installment of Avengers will hit theaters in April 2026. Shawn Levy, responsible for Deadpool and Wolverineis in negotiations to direct the film, which could also bring together a impressive number of superheroes of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
A source close to the project told Deadline that “more than 60 UCM characters could reprise their roles“in what is described as a”choral film” and “one of Marvel’s biggest productions to date.”
Among the names mentioned in the article are Chris Hemsworth like Thor, Mark Ruffalike the hulk, Benedict Cumberbatch like Doctor Strange, Simu Liu like Shang-Chi, Karen Gillan like Nebula and Tom Hiddleston like Loki. Unlike the first Avengers films, which had a core group made up of Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Hemsworth and Ruffalomany of the characters in this new film will have the same time on screen, which would make it a film more choral even than Infinity War and Endgame.
At the 2022 San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel Studios president, Kevin Feigeofficially announced Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars like the end of the Multiverse Saga and Phase 6 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The two films, originally scheduled for release months apartwere initially going to be released in May and November 2025, but since then they have been delayed.
Thus, Avengers 5, now untitled after the dismissal of Jonathan Majorsthe actor who played Kang who was convicted of domestic violence, will be released on May 1, 2026. The multiversal era of Marvel Studios Avengers: Secret Wars will close itwhich is scheduled for release on May 7, 2027.
Regarding Levy’s signing, Deadline states that Michael Waldron has given to the director the last scriptalthough sources add that the filmmaker has not given an answer as to whether he will accept the job, and that the studio still plans to meet with other directors while they wait for a response from Levy.
