Loki Producer Leaves the Company

Kevin R. Wright, the executive producer of Loki and former vice president of production and development at Marvel Studios, has left his position to focus on independent film and television production. Wright, a central figure in the creation of the acclaimed series starring Tom Hiddleston, ends his chronology in the MCU after a decade of significant contributions as reported by THR.

Since its premiere, Loki has been considered a jewel in the crown of Marvel Studios series on Disney+, being the only live-action MCU series to receive a second season to date. In addition, it has earned six Emmy nominations, highlighting the innovative vision of Wright and his team.

In 2018, when Disney CEO Bob Iger decided to go for streaming with Disney+, he commissioned Kevin Feige and his team to expand Marvel’s shared universe to television. Wright took the initiative to propose a series about the God of Deception, putting together a detailed 30-page pitch that included key elements such as the Temporal Variation Authority (TVA). The popularity of the TVA has been so great that this entity will be part of the upcoming Deadpool and Wolverine movie.

Before the writers and directors brought to life LokiWright presented his initial ideas to Hiddleston, who was pleased with the development of his character from Thor (2011). Wright was also responsible for the Emmy-nominated production design, championing immersive 360-degree sets. The second season of Loki was completed on time and on budget, being one of the first Marvel Studios projects to not require additional photography.

In a statement to THR, Wright expressed his gratitude to Marvel and Disney, explaining his decision to leave the company after nearly ten years.

“I am incredibly proud of my contributions to the MCU and grateful for my time at Marvel Studios and The Walt Disney Company,” Wright said. “The industry has changed dramatically during my nearly decade with the company, and I can no longer ignore my desire to independently produce original films and television shows. “I extend my love and gratitude to everyone at Marvel Studios.”

Prior to his film career, Wright, a Philadelphia native, postponed his dream of attending film school to enlist in the US Marine Corps, where he served as a combat correspondent for four years. Following his service, he studied writing for film and television at the Philadelphia University of the Arts, where he graduated as valedictorian. Wright moved to Los Angeles, where he began his career as a development assistant, progressing to associate producer on Ant-Man and the Wasp (2018), and finally producer of Loki and vice president of Production and Development.

Wright’s departure marks the end of an era at Marvel Studios, but opens an exciting new chapter in his career as an independent producer. Fans and colleagues are eagerly awaiting to see the original projects that Wright will bring to the screen in the near future.
