‘The Hunt for Gollum’ features Andy Serkis again as Gollum and will be behind the cameras of the film
A new movie The Lord of the rings is on the way. The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Golluma prequel starring and directed by Andy Serkis about the famous character from the original trilogy, will hit theaters in 2026. Peter Jackson, director of the adaptations of JRR Tolkien’s work, and his co-writers Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens will serve as producers and will be involved in every step of the project.
It was Jackson himself who announced, when the film was announced, that some characters from the original trilogy could return in the prequel. “It’s too early to know who he will cross paths with, but suffice it to say that we will follow Professor Tolkien’s example,” said the filmmaker. Since then, there are two performers who have spoken about a possible return.
Viggo Mortensen, who played Aragorn in the original trilogy, he acknowledged in GQ who is open to giving life to the ranger again: “I’ll only do it if it’s right in terms of, you know, how old I am now and so on. I’ll only do it if it’s right for the character. “It would be stupid to do it any other way.”

The last one to talk about the film was Ian McKellen. The actor has acknowledged that he has not yet been made any offers, but that he is prepared to return as Gandalf if they ask for it. “I haven’t shaved in months”has declared in LA Times. “But there is no script, there is no offer, there is no plan”. Jokingly, McKellen claims to be interested in joining the film: “if I’m still alive.”
Mckellen is one of the few actors who repeated their characters in The Lord of the rings in the prequel trilogy The Hobbit. Orlando Bloom was another of them, getting back into the skin of Legolas. Serkis, for his part, also reprized as Gollum.

No plot details have been given yet, but the title of the prequel, The Hunt For Gollum (“The Hunt for Gollum” in Spanish), already gives some clues. As pointed out CBM, the film is set shortly before the events that occur in the trilogy directed by Jackson. This time period is mentioned in the books and Gandalf and Aragorn try to locate Gollum before he falls into Sauron’s hands..
The plan is that The Hunt for Gollum is released in two years, so the team behind the film must hurry to meet the stipulated date. Because it is a prequel, there is a possibility that we will see other actors giving life to the young versions of some well-known characters. However, if they want the original Gandalf back, McKellen has made it quite clear that he is interested in returning.
