There are Star Wars fans who want to attack The Acolyte, but they have confused the series with a movie called similar from 2008.
The Acolyte series has 84% from the press and 16% from Star Wars fans, so it is clear that there is a massive negative campaign against this new show. But the most curious thing is that “hate” is affecting the 2008 film Acolytes, which has nothing to do with the galactic saga.
2008’s Acolytes has long had a 75% from critics and 42% from viewers on RottenTomatoes. Now, it has dropped to 33% and the ratings platform has been quick to hide the hate messages that were towards the series The Acolytes, although you can still read some from people who remind Star Wars fans that they have nothing to do with the science fiction saga created by George Lucas.
What is the 2008 film Acolytes about?
Star Wars fans should be reminded that Acolytes is an Australian horror thriller film directed by Jon Hewitt, released in 2008. The plot revolves around teenagers named James, Mark and Chasely, their routine is abruptly interrupted by a macabre discovery: a corpse in the forest. The curiosity of the three young people drives them to investigate, without imagining that they will enter a gruesome game of manipulation and violence.
What they discover is terrifying: the body belongs to a victim of a serial killer stalking the area. Terrified but also driven by a thirst for revenge, the young people make an impulsive and dangerous decision: blackmail the murderer (Joel Edgerton) into eliminating a school bully who has been harassing them.
However, their plan does not go as planned. The murderer, a ruthless and sadistic individual, does not allow himself to be controlled by simple teenagers. Instead, he decides to use them as pawns in his twisted game, subjecting them to a series of tests and extreme situations that test his sanity and confront them with the darkness that dwells in their own hearts.
As they spiral deeper into violence and manipulation, James, Mark and Chasely are forced to question their values and morality. The line between good and evil becomes increasingly blurred, and the innocence of youth is corrupted by the harshness of reality.
