It was a very good fantasy movie, but it was totally overshadowed by a very notorious infidelity. Today on TV, Snow White and the Legend of the Huntsman

It is not a live-action Disney remake, but it did manage to modernize a classic story for a new generation.

A few months ago, in the midst of the excitement over Disney’s live-action films on the occasion of the premiere of The Little Mermaid, I decided to delve into other adaptations of classic stories. Thus, I spoke to you at the time about Maleficent and today, leaving Disney aside a little, and taking advantage of its broadcast on TV, I want to do it about Snow White and the Huntsman, another film in which its villain ends up being the star.

This film directed by Rupert Sanders and starring Kristen Stewart did not achieve the success that was expected, among other things due to a scandalous event that involved precisely the two of them. The result nearly ended her career and cost him a divorce. The other person affected was Robert Pattinson, who at that time was the partner of his Twilight partner. However, far from focusing on Hollywood’s problems, today is the day to talk about the virtues of this movie now that it’s available via Prime Video.

A Twilight star and Charlize Theron

More specifically, Snow White and the Huntsman hit theaters in 2012, just when Kristen Stewart was in full swing after the success of Twilight. In this film she played a young Snow White, but in a much darker and adult version than could be expected from the story, something more similar to that of the Grimm brothers. Although the story is the same as always, here the evil stepmother takes center stage: Ravenna.

The film had a prequel years later where Snow White disappeared

Played by Charlize Theron, it showed an Evil Queen with a certain background and humanity, but also with a very high dose of terror. It is clear that her performance was sublime, but so is the entire team in charge of preparing the costume and makeup. On a general level, it is a very dark work that manages to convey to the viewer the feeling of discomfort in everything he does. Whether in the famous milk bath scene or Snow White’s passage through the forest, the feeling of threat is real at all times.

With all this, the film does not closely follow the original piece and includes a character in a much more extensive way that is The hunter, played by Chris Hemsworth. Although it represents the most action-packed part of the film, it also serves to present us with new scenarios and approaches. The pity is that this line of action had to change suddenly with Stewart’s departure from the project. For that same reason, the second installment of the saga, which was actually a prequel, is known as The hunter and the ice queen.

Now, it should be noted that we are talking about a good fantasy film that, in its setting, It’s entertaining and accessible.. It is not a film that seeks to create a complex universe like that of The Lord of the Rings or Game of Thrones. However, to watch during an afternoon when we don’t want anything complex, it is very good. If we place it in the line of Disney live-action, it is clearly superior to the vast majority and, although the target audience is more adolescent, the entire level of darkness and seriousness makes it perfect for adults too. In that sense, she dares to represent much of what Disney does not.

Where to watch Snow White and the Huntsman

It exceeds two hours by a few minutes, taking time to develop the characters, present action, drama, and small touches of terror. Therefore, now that we can easily see it through SkyShowtime, it is not a bad time to give it a chance with the view of time. Although the reason why we are dedicating a topic to it today is because today, June 17, they broadcast it on FDF starting at 10:50 p.m. (peninsular time). Will you give it a chance?
