The film cost only 73 million, three and a half times less. Luckily, it raised more than 600 million and was not a failure for the history books.

Keep in mind that this film really shouldn’t have even existed: Michael Crichton had no interest in writing a sequel to Jurassic Park, and only when the film was a success did he dare to start writing (and not let this bag of walking money pass by, of course). And in the contract he stated that Steven Spielberg and company could only make this sequel if Crichton decided to continue the saga.
Of course, in the film they did what they wanted with the original material. In fact, the very beginning is already a very strange script hole in which a ghost ship arrives at the port with a T-Rex locked in a box inside and, it is assumed, all crew members dead. But how, if the tyrannosaurus is locked up? The answer must be found in the first drafts of the script, when the ship was going to be infested with velociraptors. However, at one point they decided to put aside these dinosaurs but keep, for some reason, the ghost ship. It doesn’t make sense, but hey, it works visually, so we never gave it much thought.
Crichton decided to completely distance himself from the Jurassic saga, but, after his death, who was going to stop them from capitalizing on the success? Tess Sharpe wrote Claire’s Evolutionbased on the trilogy Jurassic Worldwhich appeared in 2018 and takes place just before the amusement park opens. At this point, the saga was already running on autopilot.
