Sony confirms Uncharted movie sequel with Tom Holland

The 2022 film will officially continue

Sony Pictures has attended the CineEurope 2024 fair, where it screened the romantic comedy Fly Me to the Moon by Greg Berlanti with Scarlett Johansson and Channing Tatum. However, the surprise came when Steven O’Dellpresident of international distribution at Sony, has made a quick review of the studio’s upcoming titles.

Among the films mentioned is Danny Boyle’s zombie sequel, 28 Years Laterstarring Cillian Murphy, Jodie Comer and Aaron Taylor-Johnson; Klara and the Sun by Taika Waititi with Jenna Ortega; SNL 1975 by Jason Reitman, about preparing for the premiere of Saturday Night Live; or The Legend of Zelda, a live-action film that will adapt the successful Nintendo saga after Super Mario Bros.: the movie.

Variety confirms that O’Dell has confirmed that Sony working on Uncharted sequel, action-adventure film starring Tom Holland as a young Nathan Drake. Released in 2022, the first date began the adaptation of the saga of titles developed by Naughty Dog, although its story took place prior to that of the games.

The story follows Nathan Drake, played by Tom Hollanda young treasure hunter who is recruited by experienced hunter Victor “Sully” Sullivan, played by Mark Wahlberg. The plot focuses on the search for a legendary treasure which was supposedly discovered by explorer Ferdinand Magellan and lost 500 years ago. As they embark on this adventure, they face multiple challenges and rivals, including Santiago Moncada, played by Antonio Banderas, who is also searching for the treasure and believes he has a legitimate claim to it.

Reception of the film was mixed by critics., as some praised the performances of the protagonists, as well as the action scenes and fidelity to the essence of the video games, while others criticized the script and the lack of depth in the plot. Nonetheless, commercial success was evident by accumulating 401 million dollars at the global box office after spending 120 million on production.

Although some actors have already talked about the Uncharted sequel, O’Dell’s words imply the confirmation of the film by Sonywhich now has to announce all kinds of details: title, story, cast and, of course, release date.
