The 2004 film Spider-man 2 set a precedent in the history of cinema, and especially superhero cinema.
Spider-man 2 not only left its mark on popular culture and among superhero fans. It set a precedent for the time, since it was of the most expensive productions of the momentreaching the same level as Titanic.
This was reflected at the box office, breaking the record for the most money raised on the same day of releasewhich had been imposed by the first film of this trilogy.
But Spiderman 2 did not only stand out for its figures within the world of cinema. Although it seems incredible to us now, The film won the Oscar for best visual effects at the 2005 gala, as well as best sound and audio editing.
However, the Oscar for best visual effects could not have been achieved without the support of gadgets like the “spidercam”; which served to imitate the swing of the wall-crawler between buildings and for shots impossible for normal cameras.
Let’s not forget the real challenge of the film: the Otto Octavius tentaclessince they wanted them to move naturally.
They had to make foam prototypes to see how they wanted it to look, and later create metal ones that they controlled from seats with different levers, as if they were puppets. It had to rehearse for hours with Alferd Molinaso that the movements looked natural.
Spider-man 2 and the comics on which it is based
Everything is to be as faithful as possible to the comics, although in this film they took it literally. Since one of the most iconic scenes of this, when Peter Parker throws his Spiderman suit in the trash in an alley and walks away, it is an image copied from the comic “Spiderman No more”, on which the story of Peter leaving to focus on his personal life is based.
However, it is not the only reference to the comic, since if you have paid attention to the title, it will also sound familiar to you if you read it in the Daily Bugle front page as main news after discovering the Spiderman suit in the trash. As you can see, the 2004 film Spider-man 2 has a lot to discover, especially now that it is going to be re-released in theaters.
