One of the most interesting thriller-horror movies of recent years: It’s on Disney+ and you can’t miss it – Movie News

Directed by David Prior, it was a failure in theaters, but it deserves a second chance

Disney has long ceased to be synonymous with princesses and fairy tales. Especially with the appearance of Disney+ and the brand star, which brings together those titles that are not for the whole family. One of these cases is that of The Empty Man, a film that combines ‘thriller’ and terror in a very interesting way that you should not overlook.

Directed by David Prior, The Empty Man It was released in 2020 and is the adaptation of the graphic novel of the same name by Cullen Bunn. The project didn’t look very good originally, as it finished filming in 2017, but the test runs made the studio lose hope that it would work.

It hit US theaters in the middle of a pandemic and failed: it grossed more than 4 million dollars worldwide with a budget of 16 million dollars. Critics did not react too positively to The Empty Man at the time, but, as often happens, the perception of the film changed once it was released on streaming platforms. What’s more, it currently has a 76% of note in Rotten Tomatoes.

A DISAPPEARANCE AND A SECT

The story of The Empty Man follows an ex-cop trying to uncover the whereabouts of a missing young girl. What the protagonist, played by James Badge Dale, didn’t expect was to stumble upon a cult trying to summon a terrifying supernatural creature.

Marin Ireland, Sasha Frolova, Samantha Logan, Evan Jonigkeit and Virginia Kull complete the main cast.

The Empty Man It was the last film to be released with the logo 20th Century Fox. As you know, the studio was bought by Disney and renamed 20th Century Studios.
