You will never look at a plane the same way again
Originally, Final destination It was written as a script proposal for an episode of The X-Files after Jeffrey Reddick heard the story of a mother who asked her daughter not to get on a plane because she had a bad feeling about it, and it ended up smashing into the ground. “What if I was supposed to die on that plane?”, thought. You already know the rest: a saga of five films (with the sixth in 2025), several comics and novels about teenagers avoiding death… until death catches up with them.
Scare or death
Originally, the main group was made up exclusively of adults, but the success of scream made them recontextualize the script, which intended to do for airplanes what Jaws did for swimming on the beach. He achieved it, and in what way. The premonition scene on the plane is one of the most incredible in modern horror cinema, and It also hides a secret: how all the protagonists are going to die next.. Before Alex has the premonition, Tod makes the gesture of hanging himself, and that is how he dies a few days later, in his shower. Then, as they watch the plane explode and look at each other in terror, we can see a photo of a bus behind Terry… who will be run over by one. Also, if you look closely, just as the plane is taking off, its reflection passes right by Billy’s neck, a nod to what will happen to him later, dying decapitated.
In fact, there is only one character from this group who survived death, and the only one who has recurred in another film in the franchise: Ali Larter (aka Clear Rivers) dies in an explosion caused by an oxygen tank after trying to help a new group cheat death. Obviously, she couldn’t last much longer. We can’t say the same about the franchise, which will return next year in style! Let’s see if we can once again cheat death.
