Being a rock star must not be easy. And if not, ask them Mark Knopflerwho has spoken about how the fame he achieved thanks to the overwhelming success of Dire Straits. In fact, the legendary artist even admitted that he would not want to experience something of that level again, despite being grateful.

THE WORDS OF MARK KNOPFLER

Knopfler’s words to The Irish Times (via Ultimate Guitar), far from stopping there, went further and highlighted the change in sensations on stage, when concerts become a routine. One of the great dangers of reaching so high. And when these events become so frequent and massive, the energy changes, and not in a way that he feels comfortable with.

Some are doing well. You can get used to its magnitude. I don’t know if I ever got used to it. What happens is that the concert becomes an event. “There is a different energy,” the legendary artist stood out.

If you’re playing events all the time, some big festival, some big inflated thing, then you’re missing something too. That’s what it seemed like to me. Maybe I was overthinking it. “Maybe I should have kept playing, let it become as big as Brazil,” Knopfler added.

Perhaps Mark’s sense of ennui is entirely understandable. In fact, if we translate his words into data, we encrypt 248 concerts that Dire Straits gave in 1985. A figure of absolute madness that seriously affected the band, leading them to put a definitive end in 1995.

RETURN OF DIRE STRAITS?

And since we’re talking about their separation, Would there be any possibility of getting Dire Straits back together? Our protagonist spoke precisely about this a few days ago, explaining that “There are several reasons” why you don’t feel like doing it..

As we explained a little above, it has been 29 years since Dire Straits broke up for the second time and, for now, the band has only been open to returning if it is for a charitable reason on special occasions.

Now, speaking to BBC Breakfast (via Ultimate Guitar), Mark is asked about a possible third and final coming of the band: “I don’t think so for several reasons. one of them is that I have built my own studio, which I love and I have not had a bad day in it. And he has given me the opportunity to really push. I mean, this last album, I’ve done too many songs…”

Although Knopfler does not regret his time at Dire Straits, he does appreciate having more creative freedom now: “I love Dire Straits and I loved doing all that, but what I wanted was to branch out and work with different musicians and have a bigger lineup.”

The last time I was with the band, and that was the high point for me, I probably would have signed about six or seven guys. Bigger than the small cramped room we had. Although it was great, I loved it”.

“I had a great time while it lasted, until it got so big that I didn’t know the names of all the roadies. It got so big that we were skipping stages, and that’s what you have to do when you reach a certain scale”.
