System of a Down play 27 songs at Sick New World festival
system of a Down, one of the most iconic bands in metal, performed last Saturday, April 27 at the Las Vegas Festival Grounds as part of the Sick New World 2024 festival. This performance is shaping up to be one of the most memorable of the year, given the limited number of shows that the band has planned for this period. This is only the ninth concert that System of a Down has performed around the world since 2019. The last time the band performed in Spain was at the Download Festival in 2017.
Few plans for System of a Down for 2024
The vocalist Serj Tankian had announced at the end of 2023 that his touring plans would be limited. In an interview with Stir In November, Tankian indicated that the Sick New World appearance would likely be his only performance in 2024, although a split concert with Deftones scheduled for August 17 in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park was later added.
Tankian explained that the decision to limit touring was not only related to his health, following back surgery last year, but also lifestyle decisions, including family and personal commitments.
The return of System of a Down to the stage
The presentation of system of a Down At the festival it took on a special meaning not only because of the rarity of its concerts in recent times, but also because of the selection of songs. The band surprised fans with songs rarely heard live, including the first performances of “Bubbles” and “CUBERt” since 2015, and “Kill Rock ‘n’ Roll,” which hasn’t been played since 2017.
During the concert, Daron Malakianguitarist and vocalist, dedicated the song “Lonely Day” to the late Slipknot drummer Joey Jordison in an emotional moment that highlighted brotherhood within the community.
