Halsey announces new album, the first after the excellent ‘If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power’ co-produced by Nine Inch Nails. “As you may have guessed, I have written a new album. But I needed some time to think about how to say what I needed to say. There’s a lot I’m going to reveal on this record, but you have to know some of the story first.”

He continued: “So before the chaos and confetti of big singles and album releases, I just need to tell you, dear friends, why everything matters this time. I’ll release a new song on June 4th and it’s just for us. Let’s start with THE END.” As rumored, the first song we can hear is called ‘THE END’ and it is not the first single per se, but a song that explains the album.

In the lyrics of ‘THE END’, Halsey explicitly talks about her health problems over the past few years. Hospitals and doctors appear in the lyrics (“every 2 years they tell me I’m sick”), as well as phrases as explicit as “there is poison in my brain and in my blood” and “if you knew it was the end of the world, would I would you love like a baby? “Would you hug me in the dark?”

In turn, on Instagram she has posted a video in which she assures that she is lucky to be alive. Among the tagged accounts there is one related to lupus and another to leukemia and lymphomas.

According to her fans on Popjustice, Halsey’s new album is rumored to be influenced by soft-rock and groups like Paramore. A playlist of influences points more to the 70s with people like Fleetwood Mac, Simon & Garfunkel, Joni Mitchell, Carole King, Nick Drake, Vashti Bunyan and Elton John.
