Drummer Olaf Zissel leaves his position to Gerd Lücking
After health problems Andi ‘Iron Man’ Gutjahrguitarist of TANKARD who has broken his collarbone -which is why the group will not perform at Rock Imperium Festival- the German Thrash Metal band faces the departure of Olaf Zissel, drummer of the group since 1994.
TANKARD He communicated Zissel’s departure like this:
“After more than 30 years, we are sorry to announce the departure of our drummer Olaf Zissel. Olaf, who has been behind the heads since the ‘Two-Faced Tour’ (1994) is leaving the group at his own request.
His successor is no stranger: Gerd Lücking, our long-time sound engineer, who has taken Olaf’s place a few times, will now do so permanently. Gerd is known by many as the drummer of groups such as HOLY MOSES, BONDED, VERITAS MAXIMUS, COURAGEOUS or LIGHTMARE.”
He was already a former drummer Olaff Zissel He says goodbye to TANKARD’s followers like this:
“After more than 30 years of double duty (work and band) the motivation has run out. I would like to abandon myself to physical decline and the desire to do normal things again. Something like brewing beer, getting a fishing license or buy hand grenades on the dark internet…”
Gerd Lücking He has also spoken about his position as TANKARD’s drummer:
“It was more than 36 years ago in 1988, when I was only 13 years old and I loved the guys from TANKARD at the Volksbildungsheim in Frankfurt and I immediately realized that one day I also wanted to be able to drink that much beer in just 90 minutes.
Today, after the hard work to acquire this talent and after 25 years at the mixing desk (in addition to playing drums in the occasional concert) I take the great legacy of the drums with the hope of being able to reproduce the joy of my predecessor playing and maintaining the band’s massive presence on stage.
Thank you to my friends and brothers at TANKARD for their great trust in me.”
