Much has been speculated about the controversial production of the album by Metallica ‘…And Justice for All’remembered for its absence of bass, something that drummer Lars Ulrich is often blamed. But the producer of the men in black in the eighties also has a theory about it, which he shares with us and explains why this instrument had the volume at minimum during the recording sessions.

Flemming Rasmussenthe producer who worked with Metallica on the discs ‘Ride the Lightning’the laureate ‘Master of Puppets’ or the controversial ‘…And Justice for All’ already addressed the issue of inaudible bass in this latest work in the past, but in an interview with Daniel Sarkissian recently shared a theory why so much James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich they wanted the bass to be practically absent.

This is how he explained it: “This is pure speculation, but I think they did it to get some kind of reaction from Jason. Because what they hated most about Jason was that he was a fan. He was never disagreeing or anything like that, or stating his own opinion. I think they were hoping he would say what his place in the band was… I think they probably did it to get a reaction, and when it didn’t come, that’s how the album turned out.”.

Rasmussen remembered that Newsted He simply accepted the album as it was, probably because he was delighted to be a member of Metallica. Let’s not forget that Newsted He had joined the band in October 1986, just a month after the death of the charismatic bassist. Cliff Burton. The person in charge of the four strings has admitted in subsequent interviews that “I was fucking furious.” the first time he heard the finished version of the 1988 album because the bass was so inaudible.

The opportunity to enjoy James Hetfield and live company we will have it again next July, with the two nights scheduled in Madrid on the tour ‘M72’.
