Golden leads Ajeduni Chess Festival

Havana.- GOLDEN assumed sole leadership of the XVI Ajeduni Universities Chess Festival 2024, when six of the nine scheduled rounds have passed.

To complete their assault at the top of the table, they beat the Perla del Norte team 3-1 points this Friday during the initial session.

Then they signed a two-way tie with Los Piratas del Caribe, which took them to 16 points, a figure unattainable for the rest of the contenders.

The Melenas Rebeldes and Isla/UCCFD 1 squads combined their best efforts to emerge victorious from their two commitments, a performance that allowed them to reach 15 stripes.

The “melenudos” submitted 3.5-0.5 points to Gladiadores Tácticos before repeating the dose with a score of 2.5-1.5 to Guerreros del Tablero. Thanks to the tiebreaker system they were anchored in second position, ahead of Isla/UCCFD 1, winner of Pelucas Chess Club and Guerreros del Centro, in both cases with a score of 3-1.

On an individual level, Fide Master Gretell Caballero stands out, with six successes in defense of the third board of Los Piratas. Pedro Leonard exhibits a similar perfect step from the fourth table of Warriors of the Board.

In the morning segment this Saturday, Golden Warriors will face Guerreros del Tablero, Melenas will face Los Piratas and those from Isla/UCCFD 1 will face Magos sin Cabezas, fifth in power with 13 points.

Ajeduni 2024 reserves the closing of its team competition for Sunday and the blitz chess tournament will be held a day later. So far, 123 candidates for the crown have been registered in the fastest mode of the Science Game.
