Former Uruguayan president José “Pepe” Mujica assured that during the last medical check-up he had a tumor was detected in his esophagus, the treatment of which is serious. “It is something obviously very committed and it is obviously complex in my case,” reported the 88-year-old former leader.

Bernardo Arévalo, president of Guatemala, also reacted to the news. “Dear Pepe, in life you have fought many battles, because you have understood that the best way to spend your life is by donating it. Donating it to just causes, to your people and everything you have believed in. That’s why you are an inspiration for many. The battle you face now is not easy. We accompany you and remain close,” Arévalo wrote in X.
