The Ministry of Health of Córdoba presented this Friday a contingency plan to address the respiratory infections in pediatric patients.

One of the objectives is to decompress the inpatient hospital at the Children’s Hospital, where the largest number of complex cases converge every year, to continue supporting scheduled surgeries.

Carlos Giordana, Secretary of Health of the Ministry, reported that the pediatric services of the Misericordia and Florencio Díaz hospitals, in the city of Córdoba, will be reinforced to meet the demand for respiratory infections this year.

In the case of Misericordia, the intermediate therapy beds will be expanded and the guards will be reinforced with an investment of 95 million pesos.

A new pediatric service will be created at Florencio Díaz and another 55 million will be allocated.

The Children’s Hospital will also receive reinforcement so that it can continue to attend to the complexity and scheduled surgeries are not suspended.

”Today we have more patients in the public sector, either because they lost their jobs or because they have social insurance that does not cover them. “We are reinforcing services to respond to this contingency that occurs every year,” said Giordana.

For his part, José D’Angelo, director of Capital hospitals, added that the objective is to contain respiratory demand in the different health centers.

Increases circulation

Health authorities explained that the majority of respiratory infections in children under 5 years of age are caused by viruses.

Respiratory syncytial (RSV) predominates in pediatric and neonatological patients. Secondly, influenza A. Although cases of dengue continue to be reported, the curve began to decline. No coinfections of this virus with other respiratory agents were detected in children, they reported.

At the meeting they highlighted that the vaccine against syncytial virus in pregnant women is available, although coverage remains low.

Protection through the placenta allows the newborn to be immunized up to six months.

They added that they also made an advance purchase of medications, supplies and high-flow equipment, starting in December. And they recommended maintaining prevention measures.
