This is what salary increases will be like in Cuba. They will be paid retroactively from January 2024

The Ministry of Labor and Social Security of Cuba has announced a series of salary increases that will benefit various sectors. The measure, published in the Official Gazette of the Republic of Cuba on May 28, 2024establishes retroactive payments applicable from January 1, 2024.

Education

One of the most benefited sectors is education. Resolution 7/2024, signed by Minister Marta Elena Feitó Cabrera, establishes a salary increase for both teaching and non-teaching staff in the education and higher education system.

All years of service will be recognized, resulting in an additional monthly payment depending on the years worked.

In particular, teachers at Physical Education Teacher Training schools will receive an increase in their additional monthly payment, reaching $1,000 pesos due to the incidence of specific factors in their work.

Health

The healthcare sector will also see significant wage increases. An additional payment scheme based on years of service will be implemented for workers in vital occupational categories in patient care.

These payments will be progressive according to years of service, starting with 500 pesos per month for those with 5 years of service, and increasing to 1,500 pesos per month for those with 30 years of service. From the age of 30, every two years it will increase by an additional 200 pesos per month.

Workers abroad

The resolution also includes provisions to recognize the time worked abroad by spouses or accompanying family members of workers designated for permanent missions abroad. This time will be counted towards the additional payment for years of service upon reinstatement in the Education and Health sectors.

Incorporation into the Basic Salary

The approved additional payments will be incorporated into the worker’s basic salary for all legal purposes, thus providing tangible and lasting recognition of the effort and dedication of workers in these essential sectors.

The provisions establish that the ministers of the Revolutionary Armed Forces and the Interior will adapt these measures to the characteristics of their respective institutions. The implementation of these measures will begin with the salaries corresponding to the month of January 2024.
