When asked about the investigation that has been carried out into the death of five people from influenza in the Ñuble Region, the undersecretary confirmed that the presence of Streptococcus pyogenes in “several” cases.
“We think so… in fact The presence of Streptococcus pyogenes was confirmed in several patients so far.. The audit, the report that they have given me, is now finished. They are going to send us that text probably in these days, maybe today or tomorrow,” she said. “And, of course, all measures will be taken to learn from the things that have been done.”
Regarding the treatment for infection by this bacteria, the undersecretary indicated that it is with antibiotics, of which “there is availability.”
“The Institute of Public Health issued an alert a few days ago regarding an increase in the circulation of more aggressive images through Streptococcus pyogenes. It is something that is happening in many parts of the world, in England, it happened in Denmark, it happened in other countries in the world (…) it seems that Covid produced a very important change in the behavior of certain microorganisms”he explained.
“We also reinforced the alert for the clinical teams. Recently, a care protocol has been established for the entire country, for the entire public-private country, so that the teams are on alert,” he added.
Likewise, Osvaldo Salgado referred to the way to deal with streptococcus pyogenes “the treatment is with antibiotics and we have availability.”
