They present the premiere of the documentary Maisinicú: half a century later (+Photos)

The Man from Maisinicú, directed by Manuel Pérez, brought to Cuban theaters in 1973, recreates the life of Alberto Delgado, State Security agent, played by Sergio Corrieri (Havana, 1938-2008).

Mitchell Lobaina’s work premieres simultaneously in various theaters in Cuba, in tribute to the 63rd anniversary of the Ministry of the Interior.

In addition, it is part of the summer festival program, an initiative of the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry (Icaic), which celebrates its first 65 years.

It also pays tribute to half a century of that glory of the Cuban seventh art: The Man of Maisinicú. Its director told the press that the main objective is to bring the film closer to young people, as a need to continually rediscover it.

Present at the premiere were Alexis Triana, president of Icaic, First Colonel Dorisbel Martín, head of the Ministry of the Interior in the province and members of the production team.

Next to the Guaurabo River and near the Maisinicú farm, where Alberto Delgado was murdered, a monument complex was erected. When his identity was discovered by bandits under the command of Cheíto León and Rubén Cordobés on the night of April 28, 1964, he was killed.

Alberto (El Enano, for Security) faced and suffered alone various humiliations and torture from bandits and collaborators, who could not extract information from him about his activity as a State Security agent.

According to critics, one of the elements that benefited its success was the narration that was very close to the codes of historical cinema that predominated in the 70s, in addition to being very contemporary and current for Cuban viewers.

The plot is based on a real character: Alberto Delgado, a farmer who in 1964 posed as administrator of the Maisinicú farm. His purpose was to discover the anti-government activities of the so-called uprisings sponsored by the Central Intelligence Agency of the United States.
