The keys to Paul McCartney’s return to Chile

“We will be back! We will do shows for you again and we are going to have a great time, we are going to rock and roll, we are going to have a great party, so come, join us, Chile!”Sir Paul McCartney announced in a video released this morning in which he confirmed his long-awaited return to the country, as part of the South American leg of his Got Back tour.

Of all his previous visits to Chile, this is the first time that the former Beatle will perform at the Monumental Stadium. The debut in 1993 was at the National Stadium; In 2011 he repeated it at the same venue in Ñuñoa; only in 2014 did it change, with a double date at the Movistar Arena; and 2019 again in the capital’s main sports coliseum.

Strictly speaking, the choice of the Pedreros venue (with a capacity of 47 thousand spectators for its return) has to do with the availability of dates. “On the date that Paul McCartney had available to come to our country, the National Stadium was occupied with an immovable event. And to be able to have it in Chile, that was the date. Furthermore, it is super special because it is a venue that Paul was missing,” says Rafaella Fornazzari, media manager of DG Medios. Worship.

In the last visits of Paul McCartney to Chile, the distribution of the public had the usual seats in stands and many others on the field, taking into account that a good part of the public is family members and elderly people. But this time, the show will have a difference, and that is that it will be completely standing in the court area (divided into three zones).

From DG Media they explain this novelty to Worship. “We want Paul McCartney’s return to our country to be the purest rock and roll style, We want to have a party, not just a concert, to enjoy, jump, dance and have a good time,” explains Rafaella Fornazzari.

A fact to consider, and that is repeated among concert producers, is that full standing courts usually allow a larger number of people to enter, since with the chairs the capacity immediately drops by at least 4,000 to 5,000 people. In the case of the Monumental, for full-court concerts it has exceeded 40,000 people; For example, in The Cure’s last show in the country (November 20203) the organization estimated attendance at a total of 42,000 people.

In addition to the date in Santiago, Paul McCartney announced other presentations in South America. Passes through Uruguay are added, at the Centenario Stadium in Montevideo (October 1); Argentina, at the Monumental in River Plate (October 5) and the Mario Kempes Stadium in Córdoba (October 23); and in Peru, with a show at the National Stadium in Lima (October 27).

But the prospect of an eventual sold out date, and that it could also be the legendary musician’s last tour, raises the question of a possible second date in the country. From DG Media they point out in this regard. “A second concert is not discussed. Now, it always happens with these big concerts that we like to see the public’s reaction first, but this South American part of Got Back is super tight with dates, it’s difficult. So, there are several factors that influence the decision of a second concert,” explains Rafaella Fornazzari. For now, the second date is not on the horizon, but it would not be unreasonable to think about another English show.

The Got Back Tour, the tour with which Paul McCartney returned to the stage after the coronavirus pandemic, started in April 2022 in the United States.

He had already had a tour of Brazil at the end of last year and in general these are long-duration concerts, lasting almost three hours with sets that include 36 songs. In the shows in Brazil, the musician presented sets in which he started with songs like A Hard Day’s Night, Can’t Buy me Love and Junior’s Farm. By the way, it reviews several Beatles classics, such as Let it Bealthough it also travels to other more unknown ones, such as She’s a Woman. It closes with the final fragments of Abbey Road, plus a stretch of pure rock and roll with helter skelter and Birthday.
