Anisley García, another Cuban in Olympic diving

Havana.- ANISLEY García was confirmed today as one of the contestants in the diving at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, which brings the number of members of the Cuban delegation to that multi-sport event to 47.

“It’s a dream come true, something I’ve longed for since I started in the sport,” he told HIT “La Tuti” – as she is known in the world of sports – shortly after learning of the World Aquatics decision that opened the doors to the individual competition on the platform.

“I am really happy because it is news that I was looking forward to,” acknowledged the Central Caribbean queen of the specialty in the Barranquilla 2018 and San Salvador 2023 editions.

“Now I just have to continue preparing as before to achieve a good result and be able to enjoy the experience to the fullest,” confessed the Havana native during a brief stopover on the way to Italy, where she will compete in the Bolzano Diving Meeting 2024.

There Anisley will share the spotlight with Prisis Leidys Ruiz from Santiago, who had received confirmation of her Olympic ticket a few days ago to enter the individual springboard event from three meters.

With its classifications, Cuba returns to an Olympic tournament in this sport, after doing so for the last time in London 2012. On that occasion, José Antonio Guerra and Jeinkler Aguirre finished fifth in the synchronized platform. Four years earlier, in Beijing, Guerra himself had finished in the same position in the individual platform competition.

The best placement of a Cuban in these competitions was achieved in Athens 2004 when Erick Fornaris and Jorge Betancourt celebrated with fourth place in the synchronized trampoline.

Among women, the only one with experience in a final is Milagros González, current national sports commissioner, who opted for medals in the three-meter springboard at the 1980 Moscow Games.
