The Cancer Observatory, together with the Meds Clinic and the municipality of La Florida, made an alliance to carry out 1,000 free blood tests to detect cases of prostate cancer in the commune.

Requirements

To ensure accurate results on the exam, it is essential to meet certain requirements. Such as not having engaged in vigorous exercise or sexual activity and not having attended the urologist for a digital rectal examination between 24 and 48 hours before the examination.

Urologist Christian Ramos clarified that men’s fear of digital rectal examination has been a barrier. But the PSA test is initially used as a screening tool.

“The PSA test is not a definitive diagnosis of cancer. The decision to perform additional testing or begin treatment should be made by the doctor and the patient, considering individual risk factors and specific circumstances,” she noted.
