Díaz-Canel exchanged with residents of Aguada de Pasajeros

Cienfuegos, Jun 28 (ACN) A very pleasant exchange between Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, First Secretary of the Party Central Committee and President of the Republic of Cuba, with residents and workers took place today in Aguada de Pasajeros, the westernmost municipality of the province of Cienfuegos.

Accompanied by Armando Carranza Valladares, first secretary of the Party in this territory, and Governor Yolexis Rodríguez Armada, Díaz-Canel arrived at the Primero de Mayo popular council, where a portion of the more than two thousand inhabitants were waiting for him.

The president greeted those present and held a conversation with young people and senior citizens of that town, where there is a nursing home, a pharmacy, a dental office, two medical offices and one with extended hours.

In the conversation, the president questioned several priority issues such as the water situation, food production, prices and employment behavior.

María Teresita González Sardiñas, president of the council, responded that water taxation from the Romero pumping station is now stable and is distributed through the community’s existing networks.

He explained that in the area the agricultural products come from the credit and service cooperatives and the basic production unit (UBPC), but there are not many results in the food, because the entire population is not supplied.

In this regard, Díaz-Canel clarified that in these areas there is enough land to plant and cultivate, it is only necessary to undertake to produce the necessary food.

At 82 years old and with great vitality, the president of the popular council mentioned that prices are still high, to which the leader suggested that she discuss these with producers and marketers.

González Sardiñas added that there are 92 young people without employment ties with the state, although they do work directly as laborers hired by farmers.

During his time at the Heroic Vietnam ubpc, dedicated to the cultivation of sugar cane, the leader called for increasing the yields of one of the productive forms that achieved, years ago, one of the best results in the province.

According to the digital site Radio Ciudad del Mar, Luis Alfonso López, head of production, explained that the entity has more than 2,900 hectares (ha), although in the process of cultivating sugar cane there are only 1,700 hectares with a low yield -only 32 tons

It was also known that this unit paid some 40 thousand tons of raw materials to the Antonio Sánchez agroindustrial sugar company.

There he became interested in technical standard 52 established for the conservation of machinery, both in the industry and in the cooperative unit, which has been complied with since the end of the 2023-2024 harvest.

He also inquired – the site comments – about the situation of the plantations, their irrigation systems and the willingness of the 144 workers of the municipality of Aguada de Pasajeros to maintain the cleanliness of the soil and apply national alternatives for fertilization.

Likewise, the president spoke with workers from the workshop of the Antonio Sánchez agroindustrial sugar company, and with local residents who gathered in his path.

Finally, he met with managers and workers to discuss key issues of production and development in the municipality.
